Would your child know when to say no?

You’ve taught your child to be polite, helpful and respectful. But what happens when someone uses that trust to ask them to follow, accept a lift or leave a safe place?

“Your mum sent me.” “Can you help me find my dog?” A request can sound harmless to a child who wants to do the right thing.

The No-Go Zone brings these moments into focus through illustrated stories you can explore together. Help your child notice warning signs, question unexpected requests and understand when to turn to a trusted adult.

Read a situation, ask what they would do, and listen to their answer. You may discover something you’ve never discussed—or a rule they know but aren’t sure how to use.

Then practise the words together: “I need to check first.” “No, I’m getting my mum.” “I need help.” Give your child opportunities to rehearse a response before facing a similar decision.

You can’t be there for every moment. You can help them prepare.
